Scania’s first self-driving truck
After introducing the NXT concept as a glimpse of future self-driving commercial vehicles, Scania has unveiled another self-driving model.
This model, called Scania AXL, is a concept that shows the image of a fully autonomous heavy truck. With a close look at the pictures of this model, you can see the lack of a driver’s cabin, which indicates that this vehicle is self-driving. In fact, a smart module is installed in the front part instead of the usual driver’s cabin, but despite all this, it is still possible to identify this car as a Scania product.
The interesting thing is that, unlike many other self-driving cars, the AXL concept is not equipped with a fully electric drive, but instead provides the power required for its movement from an internal combustion engine that uses biofuel materials as fuel. Based on what the manufacturer of this truck stated, the mentioned fueling system can be considered a combination of new and old technologies. Now that we are talking about technology, it is not bad to know that the product of this Swedish company uses features such as cameras, radars, GPS receivers and lidar system.
