.will invest about $45 million in the heavy transport and new hydrogen technologies sector
This support and investment is provided through two new competitions, the Hydrogen Innovation Technology Funding and the province’s Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction (TIER) program, part ofthe Alberta Hydrogen Center and the province’s emission reduction initiative
According to provincial officials, this investment in hydrogen technologies will produce “the first of its kind” for use in production, transmission and distribution, storage and industries such as heavy transport, industrial heat and chemicals
This collaboration and investment is open to technology developers, industry associations, small and medium-sized enterprises, research and development organizations, post-secondary institutions, municipalities, non-profit organizations, and indigenous organizations and municipalities
Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Environment and Protected Areas, said Alberta is known for its entrepreneurial spirit and since it is already a leader in this field, it will pursue and advance clean hydrogen technology competition in the province and at the same time start new and exciting projects and ideas.
Laura Kilcrease, CEO of Alberta Technology, said: The hydrogen fuel economy and technologies are Alberta’s next goal. The province is the largest producer of hydrogen and has many people, resources and infrastructure at its disposal and can move the province towards a new economic trend.
The Alberta Hydrogen Technology Center will distribute $20 million for innovation and initial research and another $5 million from Natural Resources Canada. Another $25 million will also be available through Alberta Emission Reduction for next-generation technologies.
